Dr. Matthias Darricarrere (phonetic: muh-Tee-is Dar-E-ka-rare) is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist based on O’ahu, Hawai’i. He works primarily as a health psychologist and specializes in refugee mental health. He divides his time between psychology consultation and therapy at Kokua Kalihi Valley (KKV), providing immigration and transgender-affirming evaluations with Health of Ohana Migration Evaluation services (HOME), and teaching at the University of Denver Graduate School of Professional Psychology (DU GSPP). His current areas of clinical and educational work include health psychology & integrated care, cross-disciplinary teaching, behavioral health consultation, culture & identity, refugee mental health, diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, therapy, and medical system settings. He completed his doctoral training in Clinical Psychology at the University of Denver Psy.D. program and has been practicing in the field since 2014. He is licensed in both Hawaii (PSY-2039) and Colorado (PSY.0005355) and provides services in both states.

As a licensed clinical psychologist, Matthias is dedicated to helping people live their lives with integrity - meaning that their values, behaviors, and relationships are aligned in a way that allows them to reach their full potential. He believes that community is an essential part of this process, and he strives to create a sense of belonging for everyone he works with. He strives to create inclusive environments where people feel valued for their individual perspectives and contributions. In his cultural work, he emphasizes the importance of understanding and honoring one's own identity in its plurality, including the pieces that are handed to us and the pieces we choose. Underpinning this idea is the belief that all people have inherent worth and dignity. Matthias is committed to creating a more just and equitable world for everyone, and he will continue to use his skills and knowledge to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Whether he is working with an individual client or consulting with an organization, he brings thoughtfulness, respect, and professionalism to creating collaborative relationships that promote health and wellness.

My Personal Story

I am a bilingual and bicultural individual whose roots run deep in both French and Black cultures. Born and raised in the vibrant city of Washington D.C., my values of curiosity, courage, honesty, community, intuition, & gratitude were forged by family history of emigration as well as growing up surrounded by global influences. Later I moved to Denver where I actively sought out ways to foster community — learning along the way that we are all connected through our relationships with one another. My partner and I moved to Hawaii with a similar, shared vision - to create meaningful connections within local communities and to provide care to those who have otherwise not been able to receive it. The source of my passion for this work is founded in a sense of shared humanity and collective growth and wellbeing.

“Yesterday is but today’s memory, tomorrow is today’s dream.”
