My approach to therapy hinges on finding what works for you as an individual. This takes a lot of honesty and courage about your struggles. We all have points in our lives where we can’t see things clearly, feel stuck, and can’t give up habits that aren’t working. My commitment to my clients is to help them see these points from a place of dignity and respect and empower them towards a life that feels more meaningful, fulfilling, and true to who they are.

I have a strong focus on relationships. When I say relationships I am referencing the meaningful connections to people in our lives, including both the difficult and the uplifting moments we have with them. I also mean the relationship we have with ourselves. Therapy is a space to explore the story of our lives and see how we understand ourselves in relation to that story. In doing so, we also reflect on our thoughts, feelings, and the ways we make sense of the world around us. Naturally, topics such as belonging, acceptance, accountability, and shared experience tend to be important conversations that come up in the process. My hope is that a successful therapy is one where the many sides of who you are belong in the room together and in our professional relationship. As such, being able to talk about how our professional relationship is working becomes an important part of our therapy and your growth and healing that occurs outside of the therapy space.

Another marker of successful therapy is that you feel seen and understood. Storytelling is a significant way that we as people share and understand our  own values, lessons, and life experiences. Part of that story includes not only your personal identity, but also the culture that you were raised in, the country or state you emigrated to, the languages you speak, the customs and rituals you participate in, and the stories handed down in your family. These, and other pieces of your individual and collective story, are important to better understanding who you are.

Our first session is about understanding your goals and needs and working together to see if I can be of help to you. Therapy should start from the moment we begin our conversation. By the end of the first session you should feel like we’re in this together.

I have worked with a number of areas of clinical and therapeutic import over the course of my career thus far. To name but a few, this includes, trauma, mood, anxiety, substance use, refugee health and immigration stress, identity, life transitions, grief, community belonging and relationship stress, racial and cultural discrimination, LGBTQ+, psychosis, severe and persistent mental illness, suicide and suicidal thinking, reconnecting with meaningful and purposeful life. Let’s talk.
